Discipleship

The 90-Day Experience
By Jim Burns

To know the Word and to live by it, you will need to take daily time to read the Bible. To develop a habit of Bible reading, it is best to have a consistent time and place.

  • When and where will you take time to put God's Word to work in your life? You'll need a method.
  • How will you begin? Try this:

A Month of Praise and Wisdom

By reading less than 10 minutes a day for one month, you can go through the books of Psalms and Proverbs. The psalms are the beautiful songs of the Hebrew people and the proverbs contain great, practical advice on many aspects of life. All you need to do is read five psalms and one proverb each day and after a month you will have completed two of the greatest books in the Bible. Then you will be ready for a new plan and you will already have started the positive habit of reading the Bible each day.

Try an experiment that will change your life! You can read the entire New Testament in less than three months if you'll take 15 minutes a day and read approximately three chapters a day for 90 days. Listed is a format you can use to try this experiment. You'll be excited to see the positive results of incorporating biblical principles into your life.

Devotional Books

In less than 10 minutes a day you can read a devotional book. Usually a devotional book has a Scripture, story, challenge or action steps. Devotional books are written to plant the Word of God in your life and give you practical insight in your walk with God.

Into Thy Word Ministries highly recommends two:

  1. My Utmost for His Highest, Chambers
  2. Morning and Evening, Spurgeon

Our sister Ministry www.crosswalk.comhas several good ones available online.

Catching and producing a 20/20 vision for your church! How do I recruit people? Have each group always be open to new people if possible. Some groups want to be closed; that is OK for them, but for most, having a small group of no more than 8 to 10 participants makes enough room for two more then you can split them up in two. Thus, the small group itself is the primary recruitment vehicle and...
Here are some key Accountability questions you can ask yourself and/or have a mentor ask you. "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." -- James 5:15-16
What is accountability? It is a check and balance system to protect us from harm from ourselves and others. We do this by being open to what we are thinking and doing so we can receive encouragement and reproof, when needed. Christian accountability is accounting for what we are up to. It is the realization that we are liable, responsible, and answerable for our actions in life to God, as well as to key Christians in our life. Thus, we need to hold to our beliefs and keep in line with what we believe so it does not distract us from God’s path for us or discourage others from their path.
